I Can't Hold Back Any Longer

Warning: If you loved George Carlin, then you won't want to read this blog entry.

Ahhh....deep breath.

I have been dying (pun intended) to respond to all the people who leave comments on the Yahoo groups I belong to and other internet sites I visit about the recent death of George Carlin (hereafter, GC).

I have held back and not left comments, but OH, I wanted to. Then I thought, "Hey, your blog...do it there!" So here I am.

Ok, now, as everyone knows he was an atheist. But the only comments I hear are: "oh, he will be missed" and "he was so talented" and "he was so funny" and "may he rest in peace".

Give. Me. A. Break.

His ranting on religion is full of error. He once said:

"Religion easily has the greatest BS story ever told. Think about it, religion has actually convinced people that there's an INVISIBLE MAN...LIVING IN THE SKY...who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten special things that he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry for ever and ever 'til the end of time...but he loves you."

Boy did he get that WRONG!
1. Jesus is not invisible. He just doesn't reside on Earth any longer in bodily form. But He is here, living in the hearts of believers worldwide. And He is real and alive and one day I'm going to see Him in all His glory.

2. "He watches everything you do", etc. That's right He does. But not to sit in judgement of you. Jesus is on the Mercy Seat right now, not the Judgement Seat. That's why it's possible for people to get saved. If He were on the Judgement Seat, no one would be able to be saved. Right now...concentrate on the Mercy Seat. He's calling you to Himself.

3. "He has a list of 10 special things that he doesn't want you to do." Ok, here GC is referring to the 10 Commandments and he's wrong in thinking those are things we're "not suppose to do" because no one can keep the commandments. No one. Not even if you tried. They are called "the law" and they were given to the Jews. The Jews were to keep them. But they couldn't. That's why Jesus came to Earth. To call the Jews to himself and extend salvation to all mankind.

4. "And if you do any of these things, he has a special place", etc. etc. Yes, GC is referring to what people call Hell. The Bible refers to it as The Lake of Fire.

Here's where the "clincher" is.

Whether you keep the 10 Commandments or not does NOT determine whether you go to The Lake of Fire.

What puts you IN The Lake of Fire is your rejection of Jesus as Savior.

That's it folks. Nothing else. So simple. Yet GC not only makes a mockery of it, but thinks he's funny, too. This guy was gross (not to mention he had the foulest mouth I have ever heard)!

Closing thoughts:

GC died without acknowledging Jesus as Savior. So he can "rest in peace" for now but the next time he opens his eyes, he's going to be a believer. Because he's going to be standing in front of Jesus...and the joke will be on him.

What a shame. So much for a "talented" man, don't you think?
Don't let what is going to happen to GC, happen to you. Please.

Thanks for listening. I feel so much better now.

Bill Maher is in the same league as GC.
He ridicules Christianity whenever he has an opportunity to.
I pray for their souls and enlightenment, for Christ lived and died for all. It is the simplicity of the Good News, that confounds so many.....God planned salvation, because he loved his Creation... US!! Wow..he gave us a second chance! I only wish and pray more of his creation would take His plan to heart!
What a different world this would be..

I've thought a basically the same thing. I was not well acquainted with GC's comedy, but I knew what little I'd heard of it, I didn't find humorous.

A daughter of mine once had a boyfriend who loved Carlin. He told me to read his books. So I tried. And hated it. Thankfully the boyfriend is not longer around!
